Giotto socks
It’s been some time since I last used Koigu, so forgive me if I wax lyrical. At last I think I have found the right yarn and the right stitch pattern for my Sockpal2za socks. It took only a very little investigation on my sock pal’s site to reveal that really, none of my stash yarns were going to be suitable. Much as I wanted to put her in jaunty blue and white stripes, I could no longer deny that she likes far more sophisticated, subtle, subdued colours than I tend to pick. So I ordered some Koigu from Get Knitted.

It looks beige from a distance, slightly like porridge, but closer attention reaps rewards. In this swatch I can see indigo, rose pink, baby pink, pearl grey, smoke grey, hazlenut brown, chestnut, sage, teal, lavender…

Now I have been heard to say I don’t like lace patterns in variegated yarn, but recent projects give this the lie. This twisted cable and ladder lace pattern I hope will keep my sock pal’s feet from overheating in wool socks. My next challenge: maths, to work out how long my socks can be (I think I want to go top down).

So pretty! That Koigu is always worth the wait, isn't it?!?

I think variegated and lace CAN mix but that sometimes they do better than others (grin). I love my peacock shawl in variegated yarn, but there is that tiny bit of trade-off because I think it masks the visual stitch pattern--especially if the colors vary widely. But sometimes that makes a beautiful effect. It all depends! (Just like everything else, huh?)

With the close up this yarn is really lovely. Good choice!

Stunning! I love Koigu...just wish I could find a place to look/touch/buy it in person. Enjoy and have a wonderful weekend.

I have made that statement about lace and variagation too many times to count. But, that is indeed a pretty lace with that lovely Koigu. I guess you just have to find the right lace and the right yarn. Where did you find this pattern?

I love this colorway! I just finished a pair of 2x2 rib socks in this colorway for my mom; it was hard to let them go! I'm sure your sock pal will love the socks.

I'm having a tough time with this pattern. What's killing me is the instruction to Kfb in the double yarn over. Do I knit in the front and back of EACH yarnover, or knit into the front and back of both of them at the same time? It is tedious for me either way. Any explanation or tip would be appreciated.
Love your site!
