So long

It’s been so long... food poisoning really kills a girl’s will to write, and then the domain was down for a couple of days. Things seem to be getting back on an even keel (those sound like famous last words) and I’ve some catching up to do: let me show you one of my favourite recent FOs.

Jemima, started 27 Sept 05 finished 9 Oct 05
Pattern: My own – available here
Yarn: RYC Cashsoft DK

jemima01.jpg

After some tweaking (the first attempt at the neckline was far too wide), it takes all my ingenuity to come up with anything else to wear. It’s a DK yarn, but I knit it at an aran guage, and it’s made a fine, drapy fabric which is perfect for this alarmingly mild autumn.

jemimabuttons.jpg

I like the buttons best of all. From left to right, Peter Rabbit, Jemima Puddleduck and Tom Kitten. This was also my first attempt at a tubular cast-on (this is a progress pic I never got around to posting).

jemimacaston.jpg

Ah the pictures. Despite what I may have said previously, it turns out that when one is tired, it is possible to take 60 pictures and find not a flattering one. I don‘t care though, because I do love this jumper.

I L-O-V-E it! It looks so comfortable and is still quite flatterning. The buttons are a wonderful touch. Congrats--it is fab!

This is a lovely knit! Despite the fact that you did look tired, you looked very good in this. I love tubular cast on ... it makes very neat edge.Food poisoning? Sorry to hear about that ... I suppose you're getting better, right? Best wishes!

Posted by: Agnes at October 26, 2005 04:35 PM

how cute are you! i love the sweater - it looks supercomfy and in cashsoft it must be heaven to wear. tubular cast-ons rule.

Posted by: kris at October 26, 2005 04:37 PM

That is such a lovely sweater. I'v enever tried a tubular cast-on or even knit in the round, so I most definitely admire your skill; and the fact that you designed it yourself!

Posted by: Roby at October 26, 2005 04:48 PM

Your sweater turned out just lovely, I really like the buttons as well, it gives it that extra bit of something. Congrats on a beautiful knit job!

Posted by: jodi at October 26, 2005 04:49 PM

oh i LOVE it... so unassuming yet classic! your design is so perfect.

Posted by: blossom at October 26, 2005 04:51 PM

Beautiful Anna. Knitting at a larger gauge has given it a lovely drape.

Posted by: Mary at October 26, 2005 04:52 PM

It's lovely, and you look terrific in it!

Posted by: kim at October 26, 2005 04:55 PM

I love the sweater and the buttons are definately the icing on the cake -- it's all in the details, isn't it! It looks like an instant classic, one you'll be wearing for a long time.

Posted by: nona at October 26, 2005 04:59 PM

Oh Anna, it is gorgeous! You look lovely in it, beautiful design, yet again.

Posted by: Carolyn at October 26, 2005 04:59 PM

It's smashing! It looks so comfy - and the buttons are truely ace. My mum knit me a cardi when I was little with very similar buttons on it - dead cute :)

Posted by: lyn at October 26, 2005 05:16 PM

I think you and the sweater are fab looking! My Mum used those buttons on something she knit my little sister when she was a small child!

It's great to see pictures of you smiling, now I sound like a Mum lol!

Posted by: Anna at October 26, 2005 05:16 PM

Classic, beautiful! I love the little touch of contrast color. Missed you :)

Posted by: Jackie at October 26, 2005 05:18 PM

You are really, really good at this. ;-) I particularly like way you've tipped all the edges with an ever-so-slightly contrasting shade. It's a lovely, subtle touch.

You are so frikin' cute! I think the photos look perfect. Oh, and lovely sweater.

Posted by: jan at October 26, 2005 05:49 PM

So pretty! You have such a great talent for designing, Anna! Glad you're feeling better. Food poisoning is such a bummer!

Posted by: Annie at October 26, 2005 05:52 PM

Even keel, you say, and then there you are, bravely smiling while the deck tilts at an alarming angle!

Love that cast on. Must try it someday.

Posted by: B. at October 26, 2005 05:52 PM

Really beautiful! Well done!

Posted by: Roxanne at October 26, 2005 06:00 PM

I was wondering where you and your site went. Glad you are back and feeling better! (ugh food poisoning)

Love the raglan! My fave parts are the buttons (Ive been wanting a sweater like that for a while) and the fabric oh and the color. Ok so I love it all, it looks so great on you. Definately something you can wear around town or hanging out at home. I definately need to try something like this

Posted by: yahaira at October 26, 2005 06:19 PM

Posted by: shobhana at October 26, 2005 08:41 PM

I love it! The raglan I did earlier this year was in Cashsoft as well, and it is great. The funny thing is that I had planned to do the same button band you used and then changed course. I love the button band - now I'm going to have to make a second! Can't wait to see the pattern. And BTW, you look great in all of the pictures. xox,

Posted by: Julia at October 26, 2005 08:41 PM

It's great! The buttons are unassuming, but a cute suprise when you get close! And the colors are perfect-- LOVE IT!

So sorry that you were ill, Anna. Glad you're back! You look great and that sweater... what Adele said, "so ... something!" It's great!

Posted by: Vicki at October 26, 2005 10:30 PM

This beautiful jumper looks so casual and yet so pulled together. I love thecolour and drape too. What yarn did you use?

Posted by: erin at October 26, 2005 11:24 PM

Ah, just read your specs again so it is cashsoft!

Posted by: erin at October 26, 2005 11:26 PM

It looks great--nice and comfortable, and the buttons are a great touch. Sooo sorry about the food poisoning, though! Glad you're past it! (Ugh)

Posted by: Deb at October 26, 2005 11:44 PM

Your tubular cast-on is...brilliant! Having struggled with this technique for many hours, I am impressed. It really looks good and adds a lot to the whole very lovely jumper.

Food poisoning sucks... glad you're feeling better!

Posted by: Aaron F. at October 27, 2005 01:20 AM

What an absolutely lovely sweater! I love it so! Those buttons are the perfect touch :) I hope you're feeling better. Food poisoning is probably one of the least fun things ever O_o

Sorry to hear of the food poisoning. That is most unfortunate!

The sweater is beautiful. I love the delicate color and the buttons. Did you like the Cashsoft?

Oh,it is beautiful! I love it.

Posted by: norinori at October 28, 2005 05:58 AM

If I could knit jumpers, Jemimia is the kind of jumper I would knit! I really like it. The colours, the styling - everything.

Food poisoning? Bleurgh. Hope it has passed now.

Hey! One of my favorite sweaters as a little girl was one that my mom had knit for me... and it, too had Peter Rabbit buttons! Thanks for a quick shot of a happy memories!

Posted by: Meg at October 28, 2005 03:58 PM

PS When you publish your first book, please name all of your designs after Beatrix Potter characters. So charming.

Posted by: Ashley at October 28, 2005 08:11 PM

I hope you're feeling better now. I love how you pay attention to the details, like the touch of color, the buttons, the tubular cast-on. I discovered the tubular cast-on, in my latest project. It made me feel so clever!

Posted by: MJ at October 28, 2005 10:20 PM

Your knitting is fantastic! To me, this is much more special than a basic raglan...any chance of posting or publishing?

Posted by: sarah at October 29, 2005 04:35 PM

i've been lurking around your blog for awhile, but i feel as though i must comment on this absolutly beautiful sweater you have done!! it looks so soft. i was wondering if you would be willing to post the pattern for sale? hope that you are feeling better now.

Posted by: Stefanie at October 31, 2005 05:18 PM

Stunning! I love the drape.

Are you going to publish this one? I've been looking for a raglan *just* like this for some time.

Posted by: Pip at November 1, 2005 10:57 PM

i have those buttons!! i have em! and i have some other beatrix potter ones also. the sweater is so cute. one of the things that i hate about sweaters is that the necks choke me, so this one is great and i love the buttons at the neck. really cute! and as usual, you are adorable! too cute!

Posted by: natasha fialkov at November 2, 2005 01:57 AM

That is the pattern I've been searching for! Including the tubular cast-on. Please tell me that this one will be posted! I will gladly pay AND trade some lovely buttons for it!
