Full disclosure

I confess, there are no instructions for crochet button-covers in the Jess pattern. This is because I do not know crochet, or how I did what I did. I will attempt to deconstruct a crochet button-cover and post a photo-tutorial to help out, unless anyone knows of a decent one in existence?

Edit to add: You'll find a great tutorial for crocheted buttoncovers here – I couldn't hope to do better.

Tee hee--I took one look at those and thought "crochet? uh-oh." They look very nice on the original, but mine will be wearing just plain buttons, I think.

There's this http://glampyreknits.tripod.com/glampyrephotos/id33.html but it's knit not crochet, but I'm not quite certain how well it will work with buttons as opposed to beads.

You are adorable. 100%.

If you can show a tutorial, I can write it out for you. Also be aware that British and American crochet instructions are different - I can help with that too if you need it. Lemme know. ;-)

I can't wait to start mine! Darn those other pesky projects on the needles...

Crocheting button covers are pretty easy - you just need to make a circle with sc (start with a "magic slip knot" so you can close the center hole as tightly as possible, sc 6, let's say, second row sc 12, third row sc 18 and so on until you've gotten to the width you need) and then decrease every few stitches for a row or two to make a rim for the back of the button. If the button is thick you could work even for a row so the button will fit easily inside.

I'm a bit late extending my condolences for Harvey's departure from this world but I had to wish you all well. I was quite sad to hear that he had passed on. Based on his blog appearances, it's clear that he was a distinguished fellow with an eye for fashion who was blessed to live a long and happy life with a family that truly loved and appreciated him. The rest of us can only hope for as much...

Hi. Have you seen that you are being discussed on See Eunny Knit! Very positively I might add.

(Delurking) I don't know of any tutorials on crochet buttons but I do have a book, "50 Heirloom Buttons", put out by Taunton Press (the Threads folks). I got it many years ago, don't know if it's still published - but! it covers what you need.

ps - You do wonderful! work!

By the way, your predicament inspired me to make a tutorial at CrochetMe. :)
