Just pussyfooting around

Oh baby. The last FO of 2005 is my best foot forward for 2006. Thank you Cara for showing me the way (and a round of applause for those epic updates!), and to Grumperina for such a refined design. Bias panels for the feet... bliss.

Pet Me socks, started 25 Nov 05 finished 31 Dec 05
Pattern: Jaywalker from Magknits
Yarn: Koigu KPPPM, a gift from my delightful colleague (and knitter!) Meg. Once again I’ve mislaid my note of the colourway.

These socks have bite. They almost had me miss a very important deadline; after sock one I forced myself to abstain totally until all (or at least nearly all) other commitments were met. I dove in, as one does, without pausing to read any supporting literature, and cast on a mere 68 sts. Yes, it’s rather tight, but I have narrow feet and ankles (unimpaired despite years of forced participation in sports, invariably in muddy fields with wooden sticks), and with a pull they’ll come on. If they were a gift they wouldn’t do but they’re only for little me, tra la la.

Is it only my wishful thinking or could they pass for tigerstripes at a distance? No? Tabby, then? After a first try in ribbing, I ripped and decided on a picot trim. I love the edging on my Sockapaltwoza socks, which sticks out a little. Actually it isn’t doing it so much in that picture, maybe it has flared with wear. Anyway, the same edging (K3 rounds, yo K2tog all the way round, K3 rounds and pick up hem) on the Jaywalkers sticks out even more! And waggles up and down! Both very good things. (If you’re of a mind to you can see another picture of the edging in an earlier post.)

Here kitty kitty... I’m off to look at my socks a bit longer. Enjoy your Jaywalk.

I LOVE THEM! I LOVE THE PICOT EDGE ON THEM! I may just have to try that! I LOVE JAYWALKERS! I cast on for my sixth pair the other day and I swear these are my stockinette socks. But I LOVE the picot edge and I just used that on a new sock the other day. Incorporating the two? GENIUS! THANK YOU! Have a wonderful, fantastic, splendiferous new year Anna! I can't wait to see what you come up with! L, C

Very nice Jaywalkers!!

Posted by: Lynn at January 2, 2006 04:36 PM

The picot edge makes them so sassy looking! I love them. And yes, you can pass for tabby -- MEOW!

gorgeous as always. picto edge does add to the feminine touch to this otherwise unisex looking pattern. i have ordered my yarn for jaywalker, i think we all need a pair.

speaking of socks, i have completed the elfine. they are pure love!

Very tigerish I would say :-)
Love the picot edge, I'm going to try that on my next jaywalker project - not a sock but a cover for my Palm LOL. I realised when I finished my last pair of jaywalkers that the pattern would make a great slip cover for the Palm so I am using up the rest of the skein on it - stash bustin at it's best!

Wonderful socks...well done! Like the shoes too!! :) I've just started dyeing sock yarn...time for me to learn how to do socks too if they look this nice!

OOoooh, what a fantastic idea! I love the waggling picot edge. And your socks look so cute with those shoes. You're ready for the catwalk, meowww.

They are so cute, I love your variation on the cuff! Would you like me to include them in the gallery?

Posted by: grumperina at January 2, 2006 06:25 PM

Now those are HOT!

I love your touch to Jaywalkers! I also love the shoes, lol!

While we're talking about socks, when you are going to publish your sock patterns? :)

Posted by: Liz at January 2, 2006 06:31 PM

Great socks. I've recently printed this pattern off so that I can make some from the wonderful socks yarns I bought with the Fleece Artist Merino yarn you liked. They are all from www.simplysockyarn.com She's in the US, but has many yarns we can't get here and the service was excellent.

Oooh, your Jaywalkers are great! And, cute as can be with those shoes. Very tigerish I think--what a fabulous colorway. I like a little flare at the top, too.

Oooh, they turned out lovely! I really have to get over my fear of socks. I keep seeing everyone's lovely results. It makes me envious ;)

Posted by: Heather at January 2, 2006 09:16 PM

Rowr! My tabby cat is very jealous and thinks I should knit up a pair in a similar (but more gray) colourway so that we can sit on the couch together and MATCH while I knit. Really, the things that amuse cats, (and the people who own them... I'm knitting a pair of Jaywalkers now and will definetely try the picot edge on the next pair. Yours are absolutely lovely.

Love them. The colourway is fantastic. Great cuff!

it looks REALLY REALLY cute with
the picot edging. great choice!!
and i always thought socks with
open toes were a horrible look
but i may have to rethink that.

it looks quite nice in that combination.

I love your version of Jaywalker - the edging is wonderful.

These are definitely the best jaywalkers I have seen so far. Beautifully modelled!

What a fab picture! I love your jaywalkers. Happy New Year!

Very cool! Did you use just two skeins of Koigu for these babies? If so, how much was left over? I'm thinking of doing some more (after I finish the first pair) and just want to see if my koigu on hand is an option!

Posted by: anmiryam at January 5, 2006 02:27 PM

So let me understand this, you start with this picot edging and do it instead of the ribbing? Or do you first knit the cuff of the sock and then add then pickup cuff edging stitches and add the picot on afterwards? Thanks for the info. Your socks are darling! Chelle

Are those shoes Candies? Chelle

Hi Anna! I changed my email address. I'll probably have a new blog soon, too. I didn't like Typepad too much.

ANYWAY- these socks are great. I had to modify mine too, and I wanted them smaller and more zig-zaggedy so I cast on 66 sts (I'm using my Addis for the ML, and my gauge was so off, 66 sts will be a nice fit for my skinny feets), and instead of knitting 7 sts inbetween the increases and decreases I'm knitting 3 sts. So instead of 4 panels of zig-zags, I'll have 6. Yours are so beautiful, though!! The colors are so perfect. I always love your Koigu socks.

"That's neat, that's neat, that's neat, that's neat I really love your tiger-feet"

MROW! I love them. The first thing I remember seeing on your blog was your red-and-white striped socks with sexpot heels--I didn't think you could top those, but these might do it!

Posted by: Ashley at January 9, 2006 06:36 PM

sexy!! lol wow nice twist! loving the colors!

Nice socks! I also especially like the Jemima you mentioned in earlier posts :)
