Sleeves and

Your input on on the Tiggy sleeve was priceless - the general feeling was definitely towards a three-quarter- or bracelet-length sleeve, a number of you mentioned fullness echoing the pocket, and Annie said ‘belled’, which stuck in my mind. Genny (blogless), Deb and Angela also queried the wisdom of a deep cuff, and I concur.

Then on Sunday I was flicking through a fash mag and came across this:

Sleek hair! Sleek hair is what this cardigan needs! But notice the sleeve...

In fact the sleeve is finished now (marvellous - shortish sleeves are so quick (comparatively), and this one is decreases all the way after the initial puff – one long sleevecap).

I'll pin it in place on the dummy with the front and back this evening to see how it looks, and report back.

In other knitting news, late to the party, I have been and gone and entered The Olympics. Honestly, I am an incorrigible joiner, this was really very bad of me: I have a backlog of projects already without taking on anything else. However (in my defence) none of my existing commitments have deadlines attached, the new project is time-limited, and when I described my entry for the Stranded-Colourwork event to darling Anoushka at Knitting Hill last night, she told me it sounded lovely. How weak I am, that was all the encouragement I needed.

That's a great looking sleeve, which bodes well for the rest of the cardigan!

I'm glad I tipped you over the edge with your Stranded Colourwork challenge - easy peasy, I say(!)

ack, my hair is so unsleek. is it still ok for me to love the sleeve? it's just so beautiful!

Gorgeous! That sleeve is perfect. I hope it'll look good with wild hair too, because sleek is quite beyond me.

You, a backlog of projects? Hah! I'm constantly amazed at how quickly you finish projects. What's your Olympics entry going to be?

Also: I was too busy the other day to comment on Bridie. She's perfect, and so lovely! I'm kicking myself for spending all the money in my paypal, now I need to sell something (I can't start her until April anyway).

Beautiful sleeve so far. I can't wait to see it put together!

I haven't the length for sleek hair, but I do miss those ballerina days. I'm contemplating your Jess for the Olympic Knitting, but I highly doubt that I could finish that quickly. I have a question re: Jess... Do you think I could just sub a chunky yarn, or is the double-strand of DK yarn what gives the jacket more texture (in addition to the stitch pattern)? I thought you might have deeper insight as the desinger. Thanks!

Welcome to the Olympics! I can't wait to see your project--I'm sure it will be fabulous. All the others I've seen so far have been!

That is just the sleeve I imagined. I can't wait to see how it works out!

Wow, that sleeve is lovely indeed! Perfect for the cardi. I can't wait to see it all put together!

I love your website. I too have joined the knitting olympics and will be designing and knitting a vintage rib vest. Looking forward to it and good luck to all taking part.

Are you going on the knitwear design course at London College of Fashion this year? I am contemplating attending the daytime course in July but it is quite pricey and not sure if I will get what I want out of it. I have spoken to someone at the college but I am still undecided.

Lovely stuff on this site by the way!

Ok! Now I am truly madly deeply in love with Tiggy... I will drop everything if you sell the pattern and start working on it immediately!! I even have sleek hair now!!

Excellent. I feel that there just isn't enough puffed sleeves out there at the moment to satisfy my addiction. Yay!

See you at the Olympics!

I was a bit worried about a wide 3/4 sleeve that would allow cold draughts up the arm — I believe those sculleries can be cold sometimes — so I am greatly relieved to see the cuff gathering it in. I should never have doubted you.

Love the sleeve. I am doing a big fat yarn order soon for some upcoming projects so can you give a rough estimate of how much yarn Tiggy will require?

Posted by: knitannie at February 9, 2006 07:48 AM

I want to marry that sleeve.
