Healing stole
A few months ago I was in the preparatory stages of designing a bridal shawl. Alas, the wedding was cancelled: to the sadness of all, but paling to insignificance beside the heartbreak of the should-have-been bride.
This stole is intended to salve the hurt a little bit - to let dear Em know that her family is thinking of her, knows the gut-wrenching disappointment she feels, and wishes we could magic the pain away.
The pattern is Sarcelle, by Kristi at Knitters Anonymous - it is quite beautiful, but certainly demanding as there is no 'rest' row. I used two skeins (maybe a little bit more) of Handmaiden Seasilk - one in Ocean and one (because I had not bought enough yarn at the outset) in Nova Scotia - that is why one end of the stole is blue and the other green. The green is striped in and I think looks beautiful.

What a lovely thought. I'm sure she'll cherish it long after the memories (and pain) fade. The two shades of yarn are quite effective together, I think it's beautiful!

PS: I've just completed Elfine's socks - cuff down - and some of my commenters want the 'pattern'. What shall we do? If you have a moment, please take a look and let me know (as if you don't have enough to do)... x

Oh it is so beautiful and I think a perfect gift. There is something so soothing and comforting about being wrapped in knitted lace and the colour you have chosen seems very tranquil. I am sure it will be loved and cherished, such a lovely comforting gift.

Posted by: yuvee at November 13, 2006 02:06 PM
That is absolutely fab. Such a generous gesture for your friend. Oh well, it may seem hard for her now, but that might have been fate saving her from a worse heartbreak down the line. Fatalistic, true, but still.
So. What is working with this sea silk like? I'd love to splash out on it, but I need to be careful with my purchases.
Thanks.

speaking as someone who recently suffered heartbreak by the loss of a meaningful relationship, and as someone whose own wedding plans were on the verge of imminent doom, i am so very sorry for em. i hope she can take some solace in knowing that everything really does happen for a reason, even if we don't understand it right away.
and of course, the stole is gorgeous :)
